A Checklist for Home Medical Supplies

If there is anything that people have learned from the pandemic is to make their health and well-being a top priority. There is no better way to do that than by regularly restocking home medical supplies. Accidents and illnesses are part of life. Regardless of how careful you may be, you are still bound to fall sick or incur an injury at home. Having medical supplies in your home can make a big difference by helping to contain medical emergencies. Here is a checklist of supplies to include in your medical cabinet at home.

Eyewash

A lot of people tend to overlook eyewash when it comes to stocking medical supplies for their homes. However, it should be among the first medical supplies to purchase given the insane prevalence of eye injuries and eye-related accidents. If you cannot get a proper eyewash, it would be prudent to go for artificial tear drops or a contact lens solution. Having eyewash in your medicine cabinet can come in handy in the event of an eye injury.

Medical Thermometer

Any model home should not lack a medical thermometer. It is much easier to diagnose fever and other medical concerns with a thermometer. Although small, the instrument is useful in recording the body temperature in the event of sickness. There are different thermometers that you could consider purchasing including infrared and contactless thermometers.

First Aid Kit

The importance of having a first aid kit in your home goes without saying. A proper first aid kit could spell the difference between life and death if an unfortunate event occurs at home. You can use the kit to stabilize an injured friend or family member before seeking professional medical help. The ultimate first aid kit should include a thermometer, antibiotics, bandages, tourniquet, CPR mask, burn gel, instant cold pack, and iodine pad.

It should also have some oral rehydration salts to contain diarrhea, antihistamines for insect bites or allergies, and painkillers like Tylenol and Aspirin. You should not just have a first aid kit sitting in your medicine cabinet but also know how to use it. It could be lifesaving.

Vitamin B12 and Saline Drips

Vitamin B12 and saline drops are excellent for a pre-medical treatment routine. In other words, the two can provide temporary relief for sick individuals or accident victims in instances where medical treatment is not readily available. They can also be utilized to help out folks that are experiencing acute dehydration. Fortunately, you can easily buy saline and vitamin B12 drops from local or online medical stores to prepare for emergencies.

Emergency Blankets

You might ignore the essence of a warm blanket until you need one badly. Having emergency blankets is especially crucial if you live in areas with extremely windy or cold conditions. You do not just have to worry about falls and fire-related accidents in such locations, freezing conditions are life-threatening too. When exposed to extreme cold, one is bout to suffer from shock and hypothermia.

Having emergency blankets can help to keep the body warm and curb heat loss. A warm blanket can also provide some relief to someone who has just been traumatized. As if that is not enough, having extra blankets can help to warm other medical supplies such as irrigation solutions as well as injection and intravenous fluids.
