COVID-19 Surges Expected in Coming Months: How to Prepare

Unfortunately, COVID-19 is not going away any time soon. As we enter the colder seasons of the year, COVID-19 cases will likely increase along with the threat of the common flu.

There are multiple reasons why we can expect cases to increase. First of all, there is evidence of other coronaviruses spreading more in the winter months.

Also, with less humid air, particles carrying the virus will linger longer, and the drier our nasal membranes are, the more vulnerable we are to infection. To keep the moisture in your air, consider purchasing this humidifier.

Lastly, we will be spending more time indoors, and virus particles can diffuse more easily with inadequate ventilation. Try an air purifier to help clear the air of contaminants.

Back in March, when The World Health Organization declared a global pandemic, people began to panic, and the first thing they did was stock up on food and other supplies.

To lower your risk of catching the virus, there are preventative measures you can take to prepare for the surge in cases. Continue reading to find out what you need to have at home in preparation for sickness or another lockdown during the colder months ahead of us.

Cleaning and Protective Supplies

Cleaning And Protective Supplies

You’re probably tired of constantly washing your hands and putting on hand sanitizer, but you need to keep up the regular hand hygiene!   The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends soap and hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Consistently wipe and disinfect frequently  touched  surfaces around your house, especially if a family member or roommate is sick. With a sick person in your household (or just to be extra careful), you should be wearing latex gloves while cleaning. This UV sterilizer sanitizing machine kills up to 99% of germs on any service you would like cleaned.

Toilet paper was one of the first things to fly off of the shelves earlier this year. And yes, it is obviously a necessity, but you do not need an excessive amount. Check out to find out how much you really need. You could also manage a bit with flushable wipes.

Make sure you have clean facemasks handy. Nowadays you must wear one when running errands, but should also wear one around the house if someone you live with is sick.

Medicine Cabinet

Medicine Cabinet

If you do happen to catch COVID-19 or another sickness going around, the staple items to have in your medicine cabinet include cough drops, coup syrup, decongestants, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and antidiarrheals.

Also, don’t forget to stock up on adhesive bandages in case of wounds. It is smart to have a working thermometer in case you think you might have a fever.

Here are some a medical-grade   no-touch infrared thermometer   that will read your temperature accurately in just one second. Fevers can be a symptom of the flu or COVID-19, so if you do have one, get tested for COVID-19.

People with prescription drugs need to make sure they have a continuous supply at home.

TIP: Get your flu shot to avoid getting the flu and reduce the burden the healthcare system is facing.

Pantry With Food And Snacks

Food and Snacks

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends storing a two-week supply of nonperishable foods that are easy to prepare.Don’t run to the grocery store and clear the shelves. That is not necessary and is unfair to other people. In case you have to quarantine again, it is definitely ok to store some extra food in your pantry, but not an unnecessary amount.

Stock up on nutrient-dense canned items such as beans, legumes, soup and fish. Frozen and canned vegetables are good to have on-hand as well.

As for snacks, nuts and nut butter are good sources of healthy fat, calcium and vitamin E. Grab some dried fruit and protein bars while you’re at it.

Most of us experienced cabin fever during quarantine in the early months of the pandemic, and I’m sure you don’t want to experience that again. Having a variety of entertainment options at hand will help keep you busy while staying safe at home.

Baking is always a good option and can be especially comforting during the colder months. Be sure to buy staple baking ingredients in case you feel the sudden urge to bake something delicious.

Rather than being lazy and watching TV all day, it is important to keep your mind active. Games and puzzles are a great entertainment option that requires brainpower. They also are a way to bond with family members.

If there is a hobby that you have always wanted to pick up on but didn’t have time before, you should try it out!

Also, don’t forget that you can still be socially connected while socially distanced.

Emergency Preparedness Kit

  • Matches in a waterproof container
