Keen on buying a new house? If you’re considering open house visits, you should be aware that they’re no excuse for you to be tardy or inconsiderate. Learn these open house etiquette rules so you can be a pleasant and responsible visitor.
If your viewing is set to take place from 2 pm to 5 pm, don’t barge in at 1.30 pm. Realtors may still be making preparations prior to visitors arriving. It also isn’t acceptable to arrive late. Respect the timing slot that was given to you, and if it clashes with an appointment you need to fix at the very last minute, make the necessary arrangements with the realtor to reschedule your visit.
Shoe covers help mitigate the spread of contaminants that come into contact with shoes. Remember, sometimes you’ll be in the company of many other prospective buyers in an open house! With shoe covers, you can help stop the spread of dust, dirt, and germs – which can come from other spaces or the outdoors. Using shoe covers ensures your surrounding environment is kept clean and free from anything that is harmful to the body.
Signing in is one way your realtor is able to retrieve information about you, but more than that, it ensures security. It’s an efficient way to protect the property owner; should any incident occur, there is a record of the visitors who were present during the open house.
If you already have an agent but visit an open house alone, inform the agent present at the open house that you are already being represented. This way, the agent may leave you on your own to view the residence while he or she accompanies other prospective buyers who do not have any representation.
Don’t crowd into rooms; if other buyers are present at the open house while you’re around, ensure they have proper space for themselves. Do not be selfish; take turns so everyone gets to see the residence thoroughly. Start outside or downstairs if there are people viewing bedrooms upstairs. If some visitors are taking a longer time than expected, be a little patient, as every buyer will get his or her chance to view the entire house.
When you are viewing someone’s home and compelled to lay your finger on an object, ask yourself this: Is this mine? It’s simple; don’t touch it if it’s not yours. You don’t need to go through cabinets, drawers or other appliances. You’ll be offered a more detailed inspection of the residence if you are serious about buying the home.
Here’s an important tip: try to do your business prior to coming to an open house. Don’t go around the house flushing toilets and turning on faucets to see if they’re functioning. Schedule another appointment with the realtor if you’re keen to examine the house’s plumbing situation.
