What is a FODMAP?

A FODMAP is essentially a map to help manage symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).  IBS has symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhia, or constipation. The FODMAP is a 3 step process that starts with;

  • Step 1 Low FODMAP Diet: 2 to 6 weeks of swaping low FODMAP values (good to eat) with high FODMAP values (avoid eating) .
  • Step 2 FODMAP Reintroduction: 8 to 12 weeks of reintroducing 1 FODMAP item over 3 days and monitoring food intolerance and reactions.
  • Step 3 FODMAP Personalization: Know you can create a menu of foods you will can eat more of and cut out some foods that do not agree with you.

Check with your doctor and registered dietician to develop a FODMAP plan for your needs.
