Bathroom / Restroom Tips for The NYC Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is set to return to New York City on Thursday, November 25 th , 2021. The world’s largest parade began in 1924 and typically draws massive crowds to the area. Although the parade ran with floats in 2020, there were no onlookers in attendance. This year, however, visitors are invited back!

Bathroom Tips for the NYC Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade While this is an exciting time full of holiday festivities and cheer, it also requires some logistical planning ahead of time. Standing in the middle of Herald Square on Thanksgiving Day means there will be lots of people and lots of barricades. That could make accessing a bathroom/restroom quite the challenge. In certain circumstances, older adults or adults who suffer from incontinence may find it necessary to wear adult diapers or disposable pullups. There are, however, many other factors to consider when planning for the event. Follow the tips below to ensure you have a successful time at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Manage Your Fluid Intake

This goes without saying but do your best to manage your fluid intake prior to the parade. It is never a good idea to avoid drinking water entirely, but be aware that the more water you drink, the more you may have to go to the bathroom. Additionally, try to stay away from coffee, as it is a diuretic that may increase your chances of needing the restroom on a more frequent basis.

Seek Out Hotels, Cafés, and Restaurant Restrooms

Although they may be difficult to access, many hotels, cafés, and even restaurants have public restrooms available. For the price of a cup of coffee or a pastry, certain establishments that say “Restroom for Customers Only” may allow you to use their bathrooms. That said, it is crucial to ask politely and be exceptionally gracious regardless of their answer.

Never “Go” in Public

If there is one thing you must avoid it is public urination. In addition to being illegal, it is also an unsanitary option. Furthermore, public urination will get you banned from the entire Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade viewing area and may impact your friends’ chances of being allowed to stay at the parade as well.

Bring Hand Travel Hand Sanitizer with You

The best piece of advice we could give regarding restrooms in crowded situations is to make sure you have hand sanitizer with you. Whether this is a bottle of travel hand sanitizer gel or individual hand sanitizer wipe packets, it is always a good idea to have it in case soap and water are not an option. Additionally, being at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade means you will encounter lots of different people with individual hygiene practices. The only think you can do is keep yourself protected, whether you’re using the restroom or not.
