Booster Pads are another layer for incontinence protection added to an incontinence product. The booster pad containers absorbent fibers and super absorbent polymer like a incontinent liner however it will not have a plastic backing to contain any urine or liquids. The reason for this is to allow the booster pad to be the first layer of absorbency and once saturated will then flow through and allow any liquid to eventually enter diaper, brief, protective underwear or pull ups. The booster pad is typically used during night time for additional absorbency or when you want additional level of protection from leakage.
The reason why a normal liner will not work effectively with a diaper, is that the with a regular liner, the pad has a plastic backing where liquids can not penetrate and then must go around the plastic in order to reach the main diaper, brief, protective underwear or pull up. The liquid will then be forced to go up and back away from the absorbent core of the main product. Present day products place the super absorbent product where the person needs it rather than throughtout the layer. This save you money because you are voiding in the right spot. For males, they typically will void closer to the middle front and for woman, they void closer to the middle.
The advantage of a liner is that if the void is light, you can then replace the booster pad and keep the main product. Using a booster pad can save money since you are not replacing an entire incontinence product
