Cancer is the leading disease of today, right after  heart diseases,  it has a very high percentage of mortality. National Cancer Control Month is April, during this month many Cancer prevention organizations and governments have a goal to raise awareness about this disease all over the world.

It is believed that prevention of Cancer is the best cure*, although, it is not always possible to prevent this heinous disease, despite this, we should take precautions because it is better to have small chance than no chance at all. It is very important to spread information about risks, lifestyle changes and other things that may help us to avoid Cancer.

What is Cancer Disease?

Cancer is not just one disease; it is a group of diseases that can appear anywhere in the human body. There are over 100 types of Cancer, but they all start with some cells that begin to divide without stopping and they spread to surrounding tissues or organs. Many types of cancer can form growths, that are solid masses of tissue. Cancer is also referred to as malignant tumors. Opposed to malignant tumors, there are benign tumors, they are not as dangerous as malignant tumors mainly because they can’t spread to other tissues or organs.

Causes of Cancer

Because there are many types of Cancer there are also many causes of this disease. Some of them are:

  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • Too much exposure to sun and UV radiation
  • Unhealthy nutrition
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Overweightness
  • Radiation
  • Exposure to some other carcinogens

Symptoms of Cancer

Our bodies are designed to send us signals whenever something is wrong, everyone knows their body the best, and every individual knows when something is wrong. Just like a great number of causes Cancer also has a great number of symptoms, they all depend on the type of Cancer. Some of the symptoms related to cancer are:

  • Feeling tired all of the time
  • Bleeding
  • Lump anywhere on the body
  • Changes on the skin
  • Weight loss*
  • Pain
  • Cough that just doesn’t pass

These are just some of the general symptoms that may be connected to Cancer, but they can also be a sign of any other disease. Depending on the particular type of cancer symptoms are different, and there are many of them.

Cancer Control Month - How to Keep the Numbers Low Treatment and Precautions

Cancer is not easy to treat*, especially if it is discovered later, however, there are many options for treating Cancer. Scientists are working hard on improving* treatments that already exist, and they are also trying to discover new methods for treating Cancer. Today Cancer is treated with:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Targeted Therapy
  • Stem Cell Transplant
  • Hyperthermia

These are just some of the treatments that are used at this time. We can all take precautions, and try to avoid Cancer. It can occur at any age, but more often Cancer is diagnosed with people who are older than 55 years. We should choose healthier lifestyles, eat better, avoid long exposure to the sun, quit smoking,  exercise,  and reduce* the use of alcohol. Basically, we need to change a way of life, and when we do this we have more chance to avoid not only cancer but many more diseases.

Purpose of National Cancer Control Month

National Cancer Control Month has a purpose of raising awareness about Cancer, the number two killer in the world. We should all know what Cancer is, can we prevent it, if not what are the treatments. We should understand this disease because statistics is defeating, and every human has a pretty big chance of being diagnosed with some cancer during his life.

What can you do on National Cancer Control Month?

National Cancer Control Month is a good start for introducing changes in your lifestyle, and this change should be permanent. If you have a genetic predisposition for getting Cancer, you should do regular screenings and consult your doctor regularly. We can all do what is in our power and minimize risks of getting Cancer, and this suggested a change in lifestyle could only improve* the quality of our lives, and hopefully make it longer.

Some types of Cancer are more curable than the others, but no matter what type of Cancer is in question, chances of healing are better if it is diagnosed at an early stage. Every person should try to minimize the risks of getting cancer. And don’t be thinking “That won’t happen to me “, because it can happen to you, me, any child, mother, father. Cancer doesn’t choose bad people, so sooner we accept that it can happen to anyone, we will be better prepared to deal with it if it does happen, and we can do our best to try and prevent it.
